Rochester-based (as of now) Kate Royal started Mammoth during her time studying at the State University of New York at Geneseo. After workshopping the play and revising indefinitely, the chosen cast is now preparing for the March 2015 performance at the Multi-Use Community Cultural Center (MuCCC). According to Royal, Mammoth is a play about distance, "and the way people deal with distance in the modern age when information and contact with people is so immediate even if they are thousands of miles away."
Mammoth tells the story of brothers Jeffrey and Drew welcoming home their expatriate sister Margaret to assist them in the sale of their childhood home. Over the course of one weekend, the siblings must confront the terms on which they parted five years prior and reconcile the past they have clung to with the future they refuse to embrace. A play about distance, family, and whether or not love can and should ever truly be unconditional.
